My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that all students have the ability to learn and the right to succeed.
As a teacher, I will begin each day with high expectations. I will enthusiastically challenge students to set goals for themselves and take risks in order to reach those goals. I will pair these expectations with strong, supportive relationships that foster personal and academic growth. I will allow students to express themselves individually. I will help students recognize their own strengths, realize their passions, and find motivation for growth and success.
I believe a teacher’s impact should stretch throughout the classroom, school, community, and beyond.
The classroom should foster more than just academics. Teachers should seek to promote academic education, social-emotional education, and civic education. As a teacher, I will strive to learn about each of my students and their individual backgrounds and needs. I will build strong relationships that will help me motivate academic learning, personal exploration, interpersonal interactions, and community involvement. I want my students to understand the importance of being well-rounded citizens who make positive contributions to society, in whatever realm they choose.
I believe teachers should provide safe and consistent environments for their students by communicating openly and reflecting on personal practice.
As a teacher, I will create a classroom culture that values communication, honesty, and inquiry. I will clearly communicate expectations and outcomes with students. I will reflect on myself as a teacher, leader, and member of the classroom community. This will help me adapt to different learners and remain approachable for all my students. I will create a classroom constitution that allows students to be invested in their own academic and social well-being. I will use conflicts as teachable moments and will encourage open communication within our small community. My classroom will acknowledge and appreciate diversity.
